Cracks in More Than One Spot
A walk around this Stoughton home turned up four problem panels, not just one: a hairline split near a gable vent, a cracked panel under a bedroom window, another at a patio corner, and one more near the bulkhead. None of them were obvious from the street, but each one was a place for water to work its way behind the siding. Rather than patch over cracks that would only open back up, we pulled every damaged panel and replaced it with new siding matched as closely as possible to the existing material and color.
Getting Behind the Siding
Every cracked panel came off, along with enough of the surrounding courses to tie the new siding in cleanly. Pulling a panel always means finding out what's behind it, and in this case the sheathing and house wrap underneath were still in good shape: no rot, no hidden water damage. That's the best outcome a repair like this can turn up: catching a cracked panel before it becomes something bigger.
Matching Siding That's Been on the House for Years
The tricky part of a siding repair usually isn't the install, it's the match. Vinyl siding fades a little every year in the sun, so a brand-new panel next to an older one can stand out even in the right color. We sourced the closest match available in both profile and color and worked the new panels in carefully, so the repair doesn't announce itself.

Every cracked panel we found got pulled and replaced, not papered over. From the street, and up close, there's nothing left to show where the damage was.
